We have all found this site to be energizing and useful, a place to exchange ideas and to further actions. I suggest that we need to have something comparable to serve us once the campaign is over. So, this thread is intended to get us thinking in that direction.

Took the words right out of my mouth (and Mr. Nader's too I would say!)

Great idea.

Who runs this board, anyone know? Is s/he a participant as well? Maybe s/he could tell us what the post election plans are for the site?

"Nader said he intends to start a ``people's debate commission'' that will effectively put the current commission out of business by the next presidential election. ``That is going to be a very serious mistake that the Debate Commission made,'' he said."

Let's get on this people! We've got 4 years ahead of us to make this happen!

Maybe we could have an "After November" section of this UBB?

Since we don't know whether this site will continue, it may be important to identify alternate sites. Here is one that was mentioned in another area of this BB:
http://www.delphi.com/RalphNader/start
I've not visited it yet, but soon will.

MTV: Now you've also been sort of a father figure to this whole
anti-corporate protest movement that we've seen emerge this year.
What do you think is going to happen to that movement after this
election?

RN: It's going to grow. More and more campuses. Also spilling into
the high schools. It's an anti-sweatshop movement to protect some of
the men, women and children who are being brutalized in these
factories abroad, but it's also trying to understand -- is this world going
to go in the way of democracy, or is it only going to be subsumed
under these giant corporations? That's really the struggle between the
citizens and giant corporations who take over governments, who
pollute the environment, who defraud the marketplace, who
concentrate the media, who trivialize the students, and who basically
keep their own expectations down about what they can really be like.
It's a lot more than just getting the job.

After November 7th If people want to stay involved. Stay in touch with the Green Party. Find out now if there is an active local of the Green Party in your area working on the Nader Campaign right now ! If not start one of your own. The Greens are a bottom up group so the state organizations are always more than will to lend a hand. Be forewarned that this is a new party and resources and personnel are mighty thin.

2002 is going to be the biggest off years election in many decades. 38 State houses will be up for grabs. Only 12 Governors will be elected this year. And one of the goals will be to elect some Greens.

But more important will be to finish off the task of getting ballot qualified in all the states. The Ralph Nader is on the ballot in 44 States in many of those states it is on an independent line rather than a Green Party Line. Prior to this election the Greens were ballot qualified in 12 States. They may be big ones like California, New York and Florida but still nonetheless 12. As a result of the Nader2000 campaign we expect to be ballot qualified in 30 to 35 States. This will leave 15 to 20 states that will have to be ballot qualified before 2004.

States have 3 different means for qualifying a party for the ballot. A few have means whereby a party convention is held and if the number of persons attending meets a predetermined number the party qualified. This means is not available to most. The second is to register a predetermined number of people into the party, usually a fixed percentage of the last govenor's race. The third is to run someone for statewide office this is where the 38 Govenors races in 2002 becomes important. In those 15 to 20 states if the Greens make the percentage 2 to 5% we will qualify. We don't have to run for Govenor, Lt Govenor will suffice. Getting those last states knocked out will be important. It will eliminate a great deal of work in 2004. It will provide instant credibility for any future effort to have 12.5 million in Federal Money and ballot qualification in 50 states.

I hope Ralph Nader will help establish a watchdog organization to continue the efforts of Naderites and the Green party after the election, and to prepare for a more concerted 'progressive' effort in the 2002 elections.
It would be a shame for all this creativity and momentum to be lost.

I'm psyched about this! I think this is going to be what REALLY makes a difference. We need a nonpartisan coalition for democracy and election reform. Something like this could really take-off on campuses and even globally if done right. Minus all the partisan angles that alienate people. If anyone gets any tips/ideas on where to go post-Nov to find such an animal----let us all know!!!!

Yeah, Mickey, it was but it made me smile... I must like stupid. :-)

As a tangible thing to do, call your local Green Party. Get in touch with them. Chances are, they are worried about keeping the people that have expressed interest in the campaign. We keep asking ourselves that, how do we keep these people? Trying to keep our lists in top shape so that we don't lose the contacts we have.

If you haven't done so already,

!!JOIN YOUR LOCAL GREEN PARTY!!

(It's also fun)

www.greedytv.org

is a new organization, co-founded by Public Citizen amoung other groups that is working to return Democracy to the media.

One quote from the website:

quote:
Television stations will make $1 billion this year from political ads, but theyre refusing to give viewers more time to hear candidates discuss the issues. Find out how your station stacks up, and send a message to them: Money shouldnt be all that talks in campaign 2000!

Other sponsors include: Rock the Vote, the state PIRGs, League of Women Voters, Common Cause, and the Media Access Project amoung others.

I posted a link in the "Issues" part of the BB for us to share letters we've written--hope that proves helpful. Also, in this thread/area, I've created a topic for sharing links and resources, so we're all aware of them. Again, this is offered just as a bit of hopefully helpful housekeeping. How's that for three h's in a row? :-)
