I found this on a Seattle Libertarian website; I just want to know if anyone can speak truthfully about the following blurb. Is it compeltely false. . . absolutely true. . . somewhere in between? Does anyone know how this story got its start? It seems too meanspirited to be an accurate post, but I'd like some feedback.Funny....Ms Laduke is living with a married man...all the while he is seriously past due paying his child support to his wife and 3 children in Ann Arbor Michigan. His wife has had to go on welfare because he has not supported his family while living with the Vice presidential candidate on the Green ticket. Seems to me she should start at home getting her lover to take care of his own children!

Diane: My real name is Mike. Mike Lowry. I'm campaigning for Nader here in San Diego. I'm a member of his Oaks Project in CA. I support Ralph Nader. I don't know much about LaDuke. I thought there would be enough people on this site knowledgable about Nader and LaDuke to answer my question posed in my first post. Why throw smack around? I'm not spreading anything. |

I'm with Mike. He's not spreading anything. He was just asking a question. |

We do know that Winona has three of her own children that she supports, and two others. Her niece and nephew on the White Earth Reservation. She continues to be an example of how a working mother may need to balance child rearing, full time work, and more recently a full time campaign. Her partner Kevin may be behind in his child support but is not hiding from any obligations, child support agencies or law enforcment. He returns home on a regular basis to Michigan and was notified by his ex-wife that people were asking questions about his child support arrears. Winona has said in the past, that she is not responsible for her partners past or present child support. She will not pay off his debts. They have worked to establish together a business called Muskrat Coffee company that has only recently been launched. If the company is successfull, I am sure he will work on his arrears. My understandoing is that he is no longer able to work in the road construction industry laying asphalt because of back problems. The break-up of her partners former relationship caused financial hardship for both of them, as is usually the case for any couple that breaks up, but everybody appears ready to work with each other to assist in the needs of the children including visitation rights etc. Hopefully, her need to go on welfare will be, and is only a temporary remedy to her present hardship. You can paint a worst cased scenario if you are looking for one. Or you can assume that there are difficult circumstances, difficult decisions that had to be made by the parents of all the children that have come into Winonas life, whether they are hers, her extended family or step-children. I know because I have traveled with her and with her children and watched her interact with all of them including Gwekaanimad who is with her all the time. She is first and foremost, a mother who cares about her family, and the welfare of all mothers and their children, and I can guarantee you, if her partner is behind in his support payments, I would not want to be him. |

As someone who has actually babysat her kids, they are really great and she is a wonderful mom. Enough said. |

That was the most honest response to a charge I have read or heard this campaign-especially after last night's Zombie Show. I'm glad I'm with Nader and LaDuke. |

Paul - thanks for your post. People are spinning this story to distort the message of LaDuke, and, in turn, Nader and the Green Party. I appreciate your candid response and agree with you that these situations are difficult, complex, and multifaceted. From your post Winona LaDuke sounds like a loving mother, a compassionate soul, and one who takes her responsibilities as a parent seriously. |
