| Author | Topic: NADER CALLS for MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION! |
| jalisha lutes |
On Sept 8, Ralph Nader took on the Drug war when he joined with Gary Johnson(Republican governor of New Mexico) in calling for the legalization of marijuana. There have been people who have argued with me on this board regarding the importance of this issue and how it would help(they thought it would hurt) Nader to support legalization. There have been people who suggested that Nader was afraid to take on this issue. I have been vindicated--and so has Nader. He is NOT a political coward. Nader has the moral courage the rest of them don't. The Gore and Bush campaigns responded to the Nader/Johnson press conferences with press releases voicing their opposition toward legalization. And the white house followed up with an outraged rebuke of Nader and Johnson's courage!! Go Ralph!!!!! By the way, the Green Party of Arkansas is thrilled that our presidential candidate has joined us in publicly calling for the full legalization of cannabis. The GP of Ark passed a resolution supporting legalizationa at our state convention on Aug 12--where wer also nominated Nader and LaDuke as our presidential and vice-presidential candidates. |

Jalisha, I am glad to see you vindicated. I am also glad to see Nader has the courage to stand up for fairness. This is my brother's biggest issue since he has been arrested several times for an activity less destructive than drinking. We will be spreading the news around certain communities who would otherwise not vote. Getting the word out will be the key, if this position is to have any impact. |

Erik, Let me tell you how we are getting the word out about this in Arkanas.... Today the "Nader-mobile" hits the streets of Little Rock. Its an RV outfitted with large panels featuring a big marijuna leaf and the words "Nader 2000" and the official website and a cellphone #. The RV will also be equiped with cell phones and a sound system. We will circle the freeways of LR and frequent the streets in front of the tv stations, and focus on the minority neighborhoods. We will be selling t-shirts that say the same thing as the panels--we already have out of state orders coming in. We are going to set up a Nader/marijuana website with links to other marijuana websites. ALso, we are going to make large banners out of green sheets and hang them from the freeway overpasses. This saturday, the Nader-mobile will hit the Arkansas Razorback football game, and if necessary, we will cause traffic jams. We plan to create an entire battalion of "Nader-mobiles" and send them all over the state. Consider them moving billboards. There are places you can't set up campaign tables, but so many where you can park vehicles! We can't wait for the Arkansas state fair.... |

Erik, another thing.....be sure to notify any alternative press in your area about this. tell them about the t-shirts and give them my e-mail address. |

Jalisha, I'm going to use a targeted strategy. I know of informal networks of concerned citizens who consider this issue important. Many of the participants do not vote, but might if they thought there would be a direct positive consequence. I intend to seed these networks of concerned citizens with the relevant information regarding Nader's position on legalization. |

Attention!!!!!!! The Hemp Industries Association just gave Nader their endorsements!!!! By the way, the Nader-mobile's "Nader 2000" marijuana leaf logo, and "Honk for Hemp" signs creates waves of honks, yells, grins, waves and thumbs-ups. We've only been flipped off once! The t-shirts are selling fast and volunteers offer their services wherever we go. |

After searching the internet, I found only one tiny article on Nader's endorsement of pot legalisation. Maybe there really is a media conspiracy! It was so vague that I'm not sure whether he advocated legalisation or decriminilisation. You'd think the article would at least be found on this site..... Could you'all direct me to your source (with a White House reaction)? |

Scott, Yes, he really came out for LEGALIZATION. You can find about 20 or more articles on the Media Awareness Project website. When you get to the site, select "decrim/Legalization" and then you might have to go back until around the 8th to find any thing. Actually, since the press conference with Gary Johnson, Nader has had other personal meetings with Johnson to discuss legalization policy. I just wish the Nader campaign would make this more public. There are a lot of people out there who would vote for Nader for no other reason. I don't think the campaign or possibly even Nader realize how many pot smokers are out there. IF this gets enough publicity in time I think it can put Nader in the white house. |

**********NADER-MOBILE ALERT**************** The Nader-MObile leaves Little ROck today for the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas. There were over 100,000 people there last year so we expect to do well. We are also hoping that our water pump doesn't go out during that long drive through southern Arkansas..... If you want to help keep the Nader-mobile on the road, contact me at [email protected] |

Nader talked specifically about MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION last night on Saturday Night Live! He used words like corporate power and eroding democracy. These words are concepts---but legalization was the only ISSUE he spoke of. GO RALPH!!!!!!!! |

Ralph Nader "called for the legalization of marijuana as part of an overhaul of the nation's 'self-defeating and antiquated drug laws.' ...
